Would JRPGs be more popular if it weren't for Gacha games?
Main Post:
Not many people talk about the impact of gacha games but in my opinion it's one of the major contributors to the underwhelming performance of JRPGs in the past 5 years.
Top Comment: I'm not sure I agree with the "underwhelming performance of JRPGs in the past 5 years" part, but I do think popular gacha games can often provide a more active community/social group for people to join that JRPGs don't. Specific JRPG communities can often feel a bit dead given they aren't really updated like Gachas are. Even gacha games without real multiplayer like FGO just allow you to feel like you are a part of a bigger community through Twitter/Reddit/Discord/etc. A sizable portion of people get into JRPGs solely for the anime or anime-esque aesthetic, so it's probably eating into some sales that could go into JRPGs. This is all speculation, though. I'm pretty sure the only method of actually obtaining this information would be sending out a survey to people asking if they've noticed spending less time on JRPGs as their gacha consumption has increased.
so I was playing on Epic games, it made me migrate to Blacksmith their own platform, am I facing people from Steam as well?
